IMPHAL: Five civil society organisations of Meetei and Naga communities have announced that all preparations have been made for the mass rally on October 31 to exert precedented pressure on the Government of India to end alleged proxy war, abrogate SoO, remove Assam Rifles and resettle IDPs at the earliest.

Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), Foothills Naga Coordinating Committee (FNCC), Naga Humanitarian Aid Committee Manipur (NHACM), Joint Tribe Council (JTC), Manipur and Naga People’s Union, Imphal (NPUI) will jointly shoulder responsibility towards success of the mass rally, COCOMI convener YK Dhiren told media person at the Lamphelpat office of COCOMI office on Tuesday.

Flanked by leaders of other organisations co-organising the mass rally, YK Dhiren said as the crisis since May 3, 2023 remains unsolved decision was taken by the CSOs to demonstrate against the continued unrest situation and expose Government of India’s proxy war to supress indigenous people by utilising Kuki militant groups bound by Suspension of Operation (SoO).

The vivid example has been the killing of three firewood collectors of Nongshum village by Kuki militants at Sunulok hills on October 19.

Missing of SoO listed cadres from the nearby Sinai Camp during security operation aftermath the Sunulok killing and the arrest of many non-SoO Kuki militants from the camp with huge sophisticated arms and ammunition clearly exposed engagement of India’s proxy army in the conflict, which the people of Manipur and CSOs have long been flagging, Dhiren said.

Regarding the October 31 mass rally, Dhiren informed that all the preparations have been made and indigenous people of both hills and valley will show united strength on October 31 to exert maximum or never seen force to both Manipur government and the Government of India.

CSOs of indigenous people of both hills and valley had thorough discussion to make complete the mass rally and all the preparations have been made, he added.

The mass rally will start from Tiddim ground, Kwakeithel and move towards Keishampat, Wahengbam Leikai, Nagamapal, Khoyathong and culminate at THAU ground, Thangmeiband with a public meeting.

Resolution at the public meeting will be submitted to the PM, Union home minister and others, Dhiren informed. Leaders of FNCC, NHACM, NPUI and JTU told media persons that Government of India has long been utilising Kuki terrorists to uproot indigenous people of Manipur particularly the Meetei and Naga communities.

It has been almost four years that Kuki terrorists have been targeting indigenous people and killing civilians.

The mass rally is being organised to expose excessive actions of Kuki terrorists and India’s hidden and wicked policy, the leaders said and urged people to take part the democratic rally positively.

They also appealed to the government not to utilise security forces to sabotage the rally cautioning that attempt to crush the people’s movement could have unwanted consequences.
